January 2010 Newsletter

Hi *|FNAME|*,

In October 2008, I set up CanRehab to encourage as many people as possible to include exercise as part of a cancer care package both during and after cancer treatment.   This newsletter highlights some of CanRehab’s progress and landmarks over the past year: the awards and funding we have been given, the release of a cancer exercise DVD, the finalising of the first NVQ Level 4 cancer exercise qualification, the first city wide group exercise service for all women with breast cancer, a 2-3 day CPD workshop for all health professionals working in exercise prescription for patients with cancer and other equally noteworthy moments.  Finally, I would like to thank everyone who has contributed in any way to making exercise based cancer rehabilitation a reality.

Best wishes,

Anna

Anna accepting a cheque from the Marina Dalglish Foundation

Marina Dalglish, wife of football legend Kenny and breast cancer survivor, recently presented Dr. Anna Campbell and Dr. Sian Tovey with a cheque from the charity The Marina Dalglish Appeal.  CanRehab also successfully applied for a grant from the Pfizer Foundation.  This money will be used to fund the pioneering new scheme Active ABC – After Breast Cancer, which aims to get breast cancer patients exercising during and after breast cancer treatment.

Exercise Level 4 qualification

CanRehab’s team has started working on the CanRehab Manual and on-line learning tools for the Cancer Exercise Level  4 training courses.  Dr Anna Campbell has been working with Skills Active, The Living Trust, Macmillan and other interested parties to produce a template to which all cancer exercise courses for fitness instructors must adhere.  This should be completed and agreed by the end of January 2010.  CanRehab aims to provide a number of courses throughout 2010.
